Rebecca Green’s superior employment reputation preceded her. She begins a dynamic, part-time position in Morrison, IL, on Tuesday, March 17, 2015. At that time Chamber of Commerce office hours will be Tuesday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
“I am very excited to share with you,” stated Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Kim Ewoldsen, “we have hired Rebecca Green, as the new Marketing and Customer Relations Manager for the Morrison Chamber of Commerce. Rebecca brings a tremendous amount of skill and talent in creating brochures, newsletters, updating website and social media sites, and more. She is excited to get more involved in the Community and is very eager to start. She and her husband, David, and their two children, Faith, 10, and Tyler, 2, live in Morrison.”
Chamber board members added these comments.
- Junior High School Principal Joe Robbins: “Great. I have known Rebecca for years. She will do a fantastic job!”
- Farmers Insurance Agent Angela VanderVinne: “Awesome–great hire!”
- Morrison Community Hospital CEO Pam Pfister: “Sounds like a wonderful choice. I look forward to meeting her.”
On Tuesday, March 3, Green spoke with the Editor about her new position.
Green is a 1994 graduate of Morrison High School; she holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Communications with an emphasis in advertising. She spent the last ten years working under the Director in the marketing department at CGH Medical Center, 100 E. LeFevre Road, Sterling, IL, as Marketing and Media Coordinator. She held the position of Marketing Assistant for 1.5 of those years. Prior to her work at CGH, she worked for the Solo Cup Company and Illini FS, Inc.
Specifically, she wrote press releases and designed promotional brochures, flyers, newsletters, and billboards for the last 8.5 years at CGH. Green also wrote CGH Foundation campaign materials and articles for the hospital newsletter. “My boss says I write very well.” She plans for her Chamber literature to “attract new businesses and individuals to town.”
Supporting Executive Director Ewoldsen is a major emphasis of her job description. That involves creating brochures and press releases and, in the future perhaps, crafting programs and handling speaking engagements. She does her own photography.
What does she see as the biggest growth opportunity for Morrison? She offered two suggestions: “Getting more businesses into our downtown; having them open a little bit longer, for those who work [late] and out of town.” She explained this strategy has made an impact in other towns and cited a personal account.
When she and Dave Green were remodeling their house, they needed to visit carpet stores. Because they both are employed, they could not do this during regular “8:00 to 5:00 hours.” During the 2013 Christmas Walk, Carpet House, Inc., 120 E. Main Street, Morrison, was open late. Because of that opportune moment, the Greens purchased carpeting on the spot.
“I am very excited for this opportunity…to help Morrison, where I grew up. [I will be able to] spend more time with my children. And I love Kim! I think together we will make a great team for the betterment of Morrison,” Green concluded.
