Two “City of Morrison employees, Police Chief Brian Melton and City Collector Melanie Schroeder, are teaching a class at Northside School[, 520 N. Genesee Street, Morrison, IL,] as part of the City’s support of the Junior Achievement Program,” stated City Administrator Barry Dykhuizen on Tuesday, February 24, 2015.  The agreement was reached Friday, February 20.

Volunteers will work in the second grade classrooms of Dana Bennett and Chelsea Stuart.  This five-week, one-hour-a-day program is administered by Monica Telschow, Senior Education Manager, Junior Achievement of the Heartland, 800 12th Avenue, Moline, IL.

“JA programs focus on work-readiness, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship concepts.  The volunteer experience is easy and rewarding!  JA provides training, a program kit that includes easy-to-follow lesson plans, and all the classroom materials needed to lead the hands-on learning activities.  Volunteers present five lessons, each lasting 45 minutes.  Volunteers typically present one lesson a week but work directly with the teacher to arrange dates and times for each.”
