Posted by

The Whiteside Forum continues its series exploring Mass Media in Modern Society hosting Beth Hafner as speaker on Thursday February 26, 2015. The free public event takes place in the Program Room of Odell Public Library, 307 S. Madison Street, Morrison, IL, beginning at 6:30 p.m.  There will be time to discuss issues and field questions after her presentation.  Contact Marc Adami at 815-772-4949 if you have questions to suggest to Hafner.

The Odell Public Library is accessible to everyone.

Hafner is from Sterling, IL; she teaches English and Journalism at Clinton Community College, Clinton, IA.  She will address some of these questions:

  • Where do most people get their information these days?
  • How much do facts matter?
  • Who owns the media?
  • Who gets to tell the stories?
  • How does social media perpetuate bias and censorship; how does it balance bias and prevent censorship?

Besides journalism and social media we may explore advertising and net neutrality and its impact on our lives.
