OnCall Imaging: Affordability, Convenience, Quality

OnCall Imaging, located at 1609 First Avenue, (the northeast corner of Routes 30 and 40) in Rock Falls, IL, is the result of a three-year collaboration with OSF Healthcare and the Imaging Centers of Illinois.  The facility was developed to serve rural communities in northern Illinois, while emphasizing a patient-focused experience.

“Rural communities should have the same opportunity to receive this special treatment, using Nationally accredited staff and state-of-the-art equipment.  Patients come from Wisconsin, Iowa, Southwest and Central Illinois, Chicago, and the Suburbs.  [OnCall Imaging] has a personalized patient focus.  They are guided through the whole system with smiling staff and collaboration.”

The facility is designed to create a calming and welcoming environment, differing from traditional hospital settings.  Patients are greeted by a quiet atmosphere, that seeks to minimize the stress often associated with medical visits.  Private get-ready rooms and warmed robes and blankets are a considerate feature.

Women with dense breast tissue can be screened lying face down, where the breasts are allowed to fall below the table.  There is no compression of breast tissue.  The  ABUS 3-Dimentional Ultrasound Mammography screening does not use radiation.

Traditional standing mammograms are performed using Comfort Paddles, which adapt to the shape of each breast and evenly disperse compression, for comfort and quality.  These screenings use low radiation dosage.

According to OnCall’s Director of Operations, Skip Sage, the center strives to address patient concerns about wait times and accessibility.  “Our goal is to help reduce the anxiety that can come with waiting for a scan,” he notes.

Since opening October 30, 2023, OnCall Imaging has worked with Physicians–locally and beyond–to ensure timely access to medical imaging services.  There have been increases in patient load, with May and June 2024 showing significant increases.

The center prioritizes scheduling and completing scans quickly, often within 2-to-3 days.  This is significantly faster than the typical 6-to-8-week wait times, in many healthcare settings.  It is conveniently open, Monday-to-Friday 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Saturday 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

“We image basically every part of the body.”  The facility offers a wide range of imaging services:

MRI
CT
X-ray
Mammography
Ultrasound
DEXA Bone Density.

These services are provided at a lower cost, some 60-to-80% less than similar procedures performed at local hospitals and treatment centers.  OnCall Imaging also accepts Medicare, Medicaid, and most insurance plans, aiming to make healthcare accessible to a wide patient base.  Insurance companies are allowing a cheaper option for their patients’ healthcare.

Features include convenient parking, easy navigation without stairs, and streamlined appointments.  Most scans are completed in under an hour.  Personal schedulers assist patients through the registration process, addressing insurance and authorization questions, and providing clear estimates of out-of-pocket costs.

Janelle Sharp, OnCall’s Site Manager, highlights the center’s mission to make healthcare more accessible.  “We aim to provide affordable, stress-free, and patient-centered care,” she explained.  “By focusing on timely service, affordability, and an approachable environment, OnCall Imaging seeks to meet the healthcare needs of the communities it serves.”

OnCall Imaging has 86 five-star reviews on Google and a 100% rating on Facebook from its 13 reviews.  Sage stated, “This prototype fits well in rural settings.  It makes everybody better, as competition does.”
