Assistant Editor Jerry Lindsey submitted this report and photos of a popular Homecoming Week event.
Morrison High School annually sets the pre-Homecoming environment with a Thursday, October 3, night gathering, that allows students to compete in fun, competitive, events. These take place prior to announcing the elected King and Queen, who will reign over the week-end’s festivities that surround the Friday night football game.
The 2024 THUSE was held on a beautiful fall evening. It included a list of games that allowed the classes to compete for bragging rights, that they will carry beyond their High School years.
Parents watched as competition began with the Powder Puff flag-football competition. Playing seven-minutes halves, the first game saw the Seniors shut out the Freshmen 28-0. Sophomores and Juniors needed an overtime, before the Juniors scored to earn the right to challenge the Seniors for the Powder Puff finals. The finals resulted in a 21-0 shutout by Seniors over Juniors. The evening was kicked-off in a very entertaining style.
Powder-Puff action was followed by a flag-football contest between Senior Dads and Senior classmates not listed on the Mustang Football roster.
As the evening progressed, class competition took many forms: Hula Hoop game; building human pyramids; food eating contests; class tugs-of-war. Such competition kept the student masses excited and the attendees entertained.
Next, spirit-building began with cheers; Pom Pon routines by the Senior moms; a new Marching Band Color Guards flag routine [pictured with Coach Hillary Blevins.]
Then came the introduction of the 2024 Homecoming attendants:
Freshmen: Ava Robbins and Lane Decker; Sophomores: Ava Duncan and Caleb Modglin; Juniors: Abigail Weston and Collin Renkes.
Seniors: Olivia Duncan and Colton Bielema; Bella Duncan and Austin Boonstra; Kenadi Hinrichsen and Adam Helms; Paige Leighton and Blake Huizenga; Camryn Veltrop and Isiah McDearmon.
Prince and Princess: Nolan Miller and Abby Hemphill.
The announcement of the elected King and Queen followed with the coronation given to Bella Duncan and Austin Boonstra.
The festivities ended with a gathering around a huge bonfire. A spirited evening closed with enthusiastic cheers, meant to inspire the Mustangs in their efforts toward earning a victory over the Dakota Indians on Friday night.
