How to Deal with Extreme Heat

Cory Law, Whiteside County Health Department Assistant Organizational Officer, submitted this Public Service Announcement, regarding health risks during extreme heat.

National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for today, Monday, August 26, 2024, and a Heat Watch through Tuesday, August 27.

An Excessive Heat Warning means dangerous heat is happening or about to happen. Individuals are recommended to avoid heavy activity and direct sunlight.  Stay hydrated.  Find a cool indoor place.  Check on children, the elderly, and pets–who are all more susceptible to heat illness.

As a reminder, even a few hours spent in air conditioning can help your body stay cooler when you go back out into the heat.
