On Thursday, July 18, 2024, just after 12:30 p.m., Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office Telecommunications began receiving 911 calls, reporting a two-vehicle crash on Moline Road, at the intersection of Yorktown Road, in rural Lyndon, IL. Responding Deputies determined a white GMC pickup, driven by 79-year-old Phillip Ott of Lyndon, was traveling northbound on Yorktown Road and disobeyed the stop sign at the intersection of Moline Road. There, a westbound, tandem-axle dump truck, belonging to Stichter Construction of Erie, IL, impacted Olt’s pickup. Due to the crash, asphalt being hauled by the dump truck was spilled on Moline Road, causing traffic to be shut down for an extended period of time, until clean-up efforts were completed. Both Olt and the driver of the dump were transported to a nearby hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Olt was cited for Failure to Yield at a Stop Sign Intersection.
Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by Lyndon Fire Department, Prophetstown Fire Department, Rock Falls Fire Department, Prophetstown EMS, Todd’s Tire & Auto, Dabney Services, and Illinois Department of Transportation.
The public is reminded all charges are merely accusations, and the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
