Martha A. Moulton, 76, of Fort Collins, CO, passed away on December 25, 2023, at Poudre Valley Hospital, following a resilient battle with cancer. Martha was surrounded by her daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren, and friends.
Martha was born on May 11, 1947, in New Bedford, MA, the daughter of the late Margaret (Mitchell) and Kenneth Robert Sisson. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Education at Bridgewater State College and taught off-and-on through the years. Martha met and married her Veteran penpal, Douglas W. Moulton, on February 13, 1971, in Duluth, MN. She cherished the memories of their early years of marriage, traveling Nationally and Internationally as an Air Force wife. She spoke fondly of the beautiful community and lifelong friends she made during the years of her husband’s military service, especially while they were stationed in Germany. Martha finished her Air Force wife service in Alamogordo, NM, from where her husband retired. Martha and Doug raised their family in the small Midwestern town of Morrison, IL. She enjoyed teaching and became the Director of Morrison Community Day Care Center & After School Club. Martha was also a member of Morrison United Methodist Church, Wa-Tan-Ye, Stephen Minister[y], and United Women in Faith. Many families remember her role in their lives fondly, as a trusted friend and an adopted mother and grandmother. Martha retired and relocated to Colorado in 2008, shortly after her daughters moved to Colorado. She became involved in small groups through the church and looked forward to Bible studies, weekly card games, social gatherings, time in the Rocky Mountains, and cooking/baking classes.
Martha would argue that her best days of life were spent with her grandchildren, Ally, Alexis, and Daniel. Her daughters often joked that she was the best mom, but they both knew they were “chopped liver,” compared to her grandkids. She made memories with them traveling to Estes Park, CO, baking cookies, and decorating Gingerbread Houses. She taught her grandchildren how to play, read, be an empathetic friend, and always believe in themselves and their potential. They remember her for her kindness, unconditional love, and good snacks.
Martha navigated her illness during the COVID-19 pandemic and hated the isolation. Her illness progressed. She quickly transitioned to a social butterfly, adopted grandmother, counselor, and friend at her residence at Lemay Avenue Health & Rehab Facility in Fort Collins. Her last days were filled by her continued fight, resilience, and drive to continue living for just one more day. Martha taught us all how to live like each day was our last. She reminded us, through her example, that every person matters and is an important part of a mosaic that forms the picture of a beautiful community.
Martha is survived by her daughters, Heather (Ross) Bledsoe, of Yuma, CO, and Mary (Clint) Swain of Eaton, CO; grandchildren; sister, Susan Ross.
Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas W. Moulton; brothers, Charles Sisson and Kenneth Sisson; parents Margaret and Kenneth Sisson.
Her Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at Morrison United Methodist Church, Moeeiaon, IL.
The Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
Interment will be at Grove Hill Cemetery in Morrison, IL.
Martha’s family wishes to thank the staff, residents, and families of Lemay Avenue Health & Rehab Facility and their empathetic, soul-filled care during her time there.
