Donna Jean Hageson Pitts Smith (1938 – 2024)

Donna Jean Hageson Pitts Smith, 85, of Morrison, IL, formerly of Garden Plain, IL, died Sunday, March 10, 2024, at Resthave Care & Rehabilitation in Morrison.

Donna was born November 6, 1938, in Clinton, IA, to Ernest and Mary Jane (Jeffers) Hagenson and was raised by her stepfather, Herman L. Pitts. She was educated in the Clinton Grade Schools and was a 1957 graduate of Clinton High School. On October 24, 1959, she married Clarence J. Smith at the Little Brown Church in the Vale, in Nashua, IA, and they shared their lives for 28 years until Clarence’s passing on June 23, 1988. During her youth, Donna worked as a Waitress for various local restaurants. In her later years, she dedicated two decades of service as a Clerk at the Texaco and FS gas stations in Morrison. She enjoyed traveling, playing bingo, bowling, and exploring her creativity through ceramics and crafts. Donna was a devoted fan of the Chicago Cubs and a huge Mickey Mouse fan. She loved Elvis Presley and cherished the memory of attending one of his concerts.

Survivors include her daughters, Jacklynn (Jeff) Pessman of Fulton, IL, Jill Smith of Clinton, and Joyce (Chuck) Junge of LeClaire, IA; sons, Jeff (Angie) Smith of Fulton and Jason (Jill) Smith of Morrison; 12 grandchildren, Sara Pessman, Brandi (Kent Robinson) Pessman, Jodi (Jake Allers) Traver, Glen Kuster, Joshua (Stacy) Smith, Kayla (Matt) Tegeler, Michael (Brynna Dolan) Smith, Jennifer (Devon) Buskirk, Bethany (Zachary Myatt) Junge, Colton Smith, Abigail (Jonathan) Thomson, Ashton (Chloe Austin-Roeder) Smith; three stepgrandchildren, Michael Pessman, Jeremy Pessman, and Holly (Mark) Kaufman; 12 great-grandchildren; 16 stepgreat-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and one on the way; one sister, Lois Byrne of Fort Dodge, IA; sister-in-law, Anna Marie Smith of Morrison; brother-in-law, Gerald (Marge) Smith of Kenosha, WI; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Herman L. Pitts; husband, Clarence.

A private Family Service will be held at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home, with Ken Renkes officiating.

A Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home.

Interment will be at Garden Plain Cemetery in Fulton, IL.

A memorial has been established to American Cancer Society.
