The Sunday, February 11, 2024, Super Bowl LVIII football game exemplified what I admire about athletes. Well-matched skill sets and strengths were stymied by analytical defenders. Most yardage gains were short, but progressive, as both teams drove to their goal posts. There weren’t breakaway, long-yardage runs to a goal.
During two, hard-fought overtimes, (this was only the second Super Bowl game to go into overtime) teams seemed to mimic each others’ play strategy: fight; fight; fight again!
It has been said, sometimes one team “wants the win more” than the other. Not this time. The San Francisco 49ers scored 22 points. The Kansas City Chiefs kept getting a tie, into the second overtime, until a one-yard touchdown put them ahead, at 25.
Such an exhilarating win sent the Chiefs home with back-to-back Super Bowl victories! Yes, the word “three-peat” was mentioned for a win next year, as confetti covered the arena and the Vince Lombardi trophy was passed around.
