The first National Football League Championship game was held 57 years ago–on Sunday, January 15, 1967. The Green Bay Packers beat the Kansas Chiefs 35-10. Initiated at that competition was a winning team award, the coveted Vince Lombardi trophy. It was designed by Tiffany & Co. Smaller versions “worth about $1000 each” are distributed to all the players, in addition to the Super Bowl rings for both teams.
Tiffany & Co. also designed the prestigious first ring and rings through Super Bowl XLII. Super Bowl XXII awarded a Tiffany ring which, for the first time, included more than 100 diamonds (115) in 1988, when the Packers beat the Washington (now) Commanders. Rings continued to grow in artistry, symbolism, and allure. Jostens or Jason of Beverly Hills, CA, produced the last nine rings.
