The storefront of a variety store will display a wide range of goods of different types and forms. Usually, eclectic merchandise is inexpensive. Inside Hidden Treasures Variety Store, LLC, at 113 E. Main Street, Morrison, IL, owner Tobias Bloom stated, “I wanted to do a little bit for everyone. That is why I have a lot of variety. Ninety percent is new merchandise; 10 percent is gently used.”
Additionally, there are antiques and historical items in the mix, like the European, medieval, candle lantern, which has been in his family for many years. Not “inexpensive” is a massive, amethyst geode–a protective stone that helps relieve stress and anxiety, headaches, and fatigue. The price is $1000. There are lots of smaller amethyst pieces; quartz-filled geodes; exotic Septarian (made of aragonite, calcite, and limestone); this electric-blue bismuth crystal. Wife Susan’s delicate, unique creations are for sale.
This is the first business Tobias has owned. A native of Chicago, IL, he and his wife lived in Prophetstown, IL, for 20 years. While working 14 years at Kay Jewelers, he did custom designs. Susan purchased the 110-year-old building nine months ago; they have a renter upstairs.
