Betty Lorraine Grater (1923 – 2023)

Betty Lorraine Grater, 100, of Morrison, IL, died Monday, October 30, 2023, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling, IL.

Betty was born on April 29, 1923, in Morrison, to Harry R. and Bernice (Burch) Linder, Sr. She was educated in the rural Whiteside County schools. She married Earl W. Grater on March 8, 1942, in Morrison. He died July 11, 2013. Betty was a dedicated homemaker who also worked alongside her husband, Earl, as they farmed in Malvern in Clyde Township She was a member of Evangelical United Brethren Church in Malvern and, later, United Methodist Church in Morrison. Betty was actively involved in her church, serving as a Sunday School Teacher and a choir member for an astounding 50 years! She often accompanied her daughters when they sang at church and various events. Betty was a member of the Whiteside County Homemakers Extension and Depression Glass Club. She was an avid antiquer, loved to garden, and expressed her artistic talents through quilting and sewing.

Survivors include her daughters, Cheryl (Ron) Bielema of Canton, IL, Cathy (Chuck) Berschinski of Mahomet, IL, Judy (Dennis) Goossens of Morrison, Linnette Keller of Cuero, TX, and Leanne (fiancé, Randy Renkes) Dykema of Morrison; 15 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; brother, Harlan Linder of Grand Ridge, FL; sister-in-law, Pat Linder Null of Camanche, IA; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; sons-in-law, Marty Dykema and Eddie Keller; brothers, Harry Linder, Jr., Carroll Linder, and Herbert Linder, in infancy.

Her Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 4, 2023, at Morrison United Methodist Church with Pastor Sun-Ah Kang officiating.

A Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Friday, November 3, 2023, at Morrison United Methodist Church.

The Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Interment will be at Rock Creek Cemetery in Morrison, IL.

A memorial has been established.
