It’s fall and a perfect time to golf. Starting Wednesday, October 1, Cross Creek Golf Course will be opening at 8:00 a.m., with reduced fall golf rates. The course will remain open as long as weather permits.

Have you or anyone you know suffered the loss of a loved one? Are you grieving that loss and feeling like you don’t know how to cope? If you would like to understand your thoughts and feelings during this difficult time, join Hospice of the Rock River Valley for a six-week support group. Morrison Christian Reformed Church and Morrison Presbyterian Church will hold a Citywide Paper Drive on Saturday, October 4, from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. at the Christian Reformed Church parking lot, 300 W. South Street, Morrison. Bundle up those papers, broken-down cardboard, books, and magazines that you have been saving and recycle them. Items collected benefit Self-Help Enterprises, Sterling, IL.

Northside Elementary School, 520 N. Genesee Street, Morrison, will host a Community Blood Drive from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 8, in the school Cafeteria. Potential donors must be at least 17 years of age (16 with parental permission; form available through www.bloodcenter.org) and weigh more than 110 pounds. A photo I.D. or MVRBC Donor Card is required to donate. Walk-ins are welcome. The CGH College/Career Day, sponsored by the CGH Staff Development Department, will be held Wednesday, October 8, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the CGH Ryberg Auditorium, 100 E. LeFevre Road, Sterling, IL. Representatives will be on hand from Sauk Valley Community College, Northern Illinois University, University of Illinois Chicago, Trinity, St. Ambrose University, Western Governors University, Chamberlain Univeristy, and National Louis University.  Information presented will be on how to become a Nurse Practitioner or a Physician Assistant.  St. Mary’s Parish, 13220 Garden Plain Road, Morrison, IL invites the shoppers of Morrison to their 4th annual “Fall Rummage and Bake Sale,” October 10 and 11. Two days of special items and fresh baked foods will be available on Friday from 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m., and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Search through adult, children, and infant clothes, household items, furniture, antiques, toys, gift items, holiday decorations, sports items, and lots more. Bag Specials: October 10, $2 a bag for all of the items you can get into a bag, and October 11, bags will be $1.

The United Way of Whiteside County is hosting a Chili Cook-off at the Harvest Moon Festival on Saturday, October 11, at 11:00 a.m. It will be held at the corner of E. Fourth Street and First Avenue in Sterling, IL. Admission of $5. For more information, call 815-625-7973.

Donations are needed for the Morrison Halloween Parade on Saturday, October 25, at 1:30 p.m. Candy, toys, coupons, etc. for 300 children, ages 0-12, along with cash donations are much appreciated!
