Jeanne E. Matzen-Fiet (1945 – 2014)

jeanne matzen-fietJeanne E. Matzen-Fiet, 69, of Morrison, IL, formerly of Fulton, IL, died Sunday, September 21, 2014, at her home.

Jeanne was born August 4, 1945, in Clinton, IA, to George W. “Sonny” and Roberta (Sheridan) Rentschler. She was educated in the Fulton Grade School and was a 1963 graduate of Fulton High School, Fulton. She received an Associate’s Degree from Mount Saint Clare College in Clinton. She attended Northern IL University in DeKalb, IL. Jeanne married John S. Matzen on August 9, 1969, in Fulton. He died December 2, 2000. She then married Roger Fiet on May 27, 2006, in Fulton. Jeanne was first employed by the former Job Corp Center in Clinton, from 1966-1969, then at Drives, Inc. in Fulton, from 1986-1992. Most recently she worked for Yellow Transportation of Des Moines, IA, from 1995-2000, and later at Drives, Inc. from 2004-2008. Jeanne was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fulton, where she served on the parish council and taught catechism. She was a long-time Girl Scout leader and served at the Girl Scout Association chairperson. She was also an active volunteer with the Boy Scouts. Jeanne was a long-standing supporter of Fulton Steamer Athletic programs and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye football fan. She enjoyed all types of needlework and woodworking.

Survivors include her husband, Roger; one daughter, Regina Lehman of Fulton; one son, Mark (Brenda) Matzen of Loveland, OH; one step-daughter, Becky (Dan) Bierma of Holland, MI; one step-son, Jeff (April) Fiet of Dumont, IA; four grandchildren, Julia and Marissa Lehman and Zachary and Ethan Matzen; four step-grandchildren, Clara and Noah Bierma, Jakob and Malia Fiet; one sister, Mary (Andy) Simmons of Fulton; two brothers, Tom (Pat) Rentschler of West Columbia, TX, John (Diane) Rentschler of Clinton; seven sisters-in-law, Becky (Richard) Donels of Cedar Rapids, IA, Diane Soesbe of Clinton, Jane (David) Zimmerman of Monroe, WI, Cathy (Don) Merritt of Alexandria, VA, Janet (Tony) Weigel of Muscoda, WI, Ruth (Paul) Huizenga of Erie, IL, Karen (Harry) VenHuizen of Burnett, WI; one brother-in-law, Rob (Margaret) Matzen of Olympia, WA; an aunt, Arline Matzen of Clinton.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, John; a sister-in-law, Judy Wilke.

MEMORIAL SERVICE:  10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 25, 2014, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fulton, IL

OFFICIATING:  Rev. Father William Antillon, Pastor, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Morrison, IL

VISITATION:  4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 24, 2014, at the Fulton Chapel-Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home

INTERMENT OF CREMAINS:  Fulton Township Cemetery, Fulton, IL

Memorials to Immaculate Conception Church, Fulton, IL, and the American Cancer Society have been established.
