Gene Brearton, 75, son of Frank and Florence Brearton, died on the 28th of August, 2014, in Houston TX.
He was born in Morrison, IL, and educated in Whiteside and Carroll County Schools. Gene graduated in 1957 from York Township High School in Thomson, IL, where he also served as the Class Treasurer. Following college, Gene taught in Sterling, IL, and Prophetstown, IL. He also coached basketball during his Prophetstown tenure. Gene moved to the Cleveland, OH, area and taught many years in the Junior High School system before he retired. Retirement brought Gene many years of happiness, as he snow-birded in Texas and summered on the lake in Ohio. He really enjoyed spending time with his daughter, Gina, and her children. Gene and his wife, Nancy, enjoyed bird watching, geo-caching, and spending time with family, friends, and grandchildren.
He is predeceased by his mother, Florence, his father, Frank, and a younger brother, James.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; two older brothers, John (Jack) of Morrison and Gerald (Jerry) of California; two younger brothers, Michael (Mic) of Morrison and Tommy (Tom) of California; his daughter, Gina Benko (John), of Gatlinburg, TN; several grandchildren.
Current plans are to hold a memorial service during the 2015 Memorial Day weekend at Grove Hill Cemetery in Morrison, IL. Family, friends, and fellow graduates are invited.
