Resthave Care & Rehabilitation, 408 Maple Avenue, Morrison, IL, held a Salute to 1st Responders and Veterans on Thursday, July 6, 2023. The touching service honored both Veterans and 1st Responders, for all they do for their Nation and their community. Attending were members of the Police Department, Sheriff’s Office, and Morrison Community Hospital EMTs. (Firefighters had been invited, too.) Resthave was very appreciative that these everyday heroes were able to take time out of their busy schedules to attend the event.

The American Legion was present to open the ceremony, by presenting the Colors and leading the National Anthem.

John Hauptman, Resthave Board President, gave welcoming remarks and introduced our guest speaker, Vietnam veteran Steve Siefken.

Mayor Scott Vandermyde delivered a Proclamation and encouraged all citizens to “honor these heroes by living up to their example–by putting service before self, caring for our neighbors and residents, and working passionately to build a more perfect Union and community.”

Two members of National Society Daughters of the American Revolution read a military prayer and poem. Veteran Jerry Lindsey read the honorees’ names as they were thanked and pinned. Residents had written thank you cards.

Bethesda Lutheran Church Pastor Tammy Anderson said the closing prayer.

The American Legion Honor Guard closed the ceremony with a Rifle Salute, and “Taps” was played on trumpet by Carolyn Aiken.

Resthave would like to thank everyone for attending and participating in this service. Resthave Care & Rehabilitation continues to be proud to be a VA-contracted home and to help care for our Country’s veterans and all the residents we serve.
