Take a spring stroll into the past at a recreated pioneer village beside the Mississippi River. Join the Early American Crafters and guest interpreters at Heritage Canyon on Friday, May 5, and Saturday, May 6, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. during the annual Dutch Days celebration. The location is 515 N. 4th Street, Fulton, IL. Watch demonstrations and talk to our artists, vendors, and others recreating life in the late 1800s.
The City of Fulton Dutch Days theme is especially apropos: “Canals, Dikes, and Floods.” On Saturday there will be a free shuttle between downtown and the Canyon. Park at Fourth Street and Ninth Avenue, and ride to, and from, the Canyon; the last Canyon pickup is 4:00 p.m.
Eleven buildings will be open for you to view or visit, several manned by reenactors who bring history to life. Enter our log cabin and clapboard homes, church, school, covered bridge, blacksmith shop, general store, and others. Cross the ever-popular swinging and covered bridges, or hike the trails. Browse the General Store for a variety of useful, wearable, and decorative items. This year, only bottled water will be available for purchase.
Three Canyon blacksmiths will attend, with hand-forged items for sale.
Admission for a whole day of fun is $2 per adults and youths over 14; and $1 for children 13 and younger. Look for attractive photo opportunities throughout Heritage Canyon. Bring a picnic lunch, to enjoy while looking at the Mississippi River across the street.
The same hours apply next door to Heritage Canyon, at Andresen Nature Center. Girls Scouts of America viewed a honeycomb with Director Kyle Kopf. The address is 409 N. Fourth Street.
