MCH Takes Ice Bucket Challenge

MCH-ALSTen Morrison Community Hospital Managers accepted the challenge by Resthave Retirement and Nursing Home, 408 Maple Avenue, Morrison, IL, to participate in an Ice Bucket Challenge.

The purpose is to raise not only awareness of, but monetary support for, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), most popularly known as “Lou Gehrig’s disease.”

They met outside the hospital, at 303 N. Jackson Street, Morrison, shortly after 3:00 p.m., on a hot and humid Friday, August 29, 2014.

Clean patient washing “buckets” were appropriated from the supply room.  A faucet allowed each participant to fill the container as full as they wished.  Media Manager Mick Welding brought ice cubes in a cooler.

“Everyone gets four ice cubes,” someone announced.

One could pour the water on a colleague or over one’s own head.  Both options were in play.  The staffer on the far right, below, assisted but did not participate.

As it turned out, four cubes were sufficient to create an icy splash. “It was cold!’ stated one of the staff.  “I can’t believe how cold it was,” said another.

The local hospital will challenge the staff of Windsor Manor Assisted Living and Dr. Bradley Yacklich’s Office.  There is still plenty of warm weather ahead to join in this miniature variation of a “polar bear plunge.”
