Lincolnway, Morrison, IL, present a check to United Way of Whiteside County staffer Nathan Fellows, left, and Board President Jeff Detra.  The donation supports the recent free summer lunch program, “Let’s Feed Our Children.”  The church sponsored lunches on Fridays.

Another free United Way program for children is gearing up.  For the fifth year the “Power of the Purse” silent and live auction event will be held to benefit L.I.F.E., “literacy is fun for everyone.”   L.I.F.E. is associated with the Dolly Parton Foundation and is a program of the United Way of Whiteside County providing free books to children in the County.

Presently there are 1349 children enrolled in the program.  Each child  receives a free book each month from birth to age five.  The “Power of the Purse” event helps to defray part of the cost of the program.

The L.I.F.E. program was started by United Way of Whiteside County in 2001.  It offers new parents the opportunity to spend quality time with their children by reading a new book each month.

The “Power of the Purse” event will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2014.  Tickets are $25 and include a buffet dinner.  A table of eight is $176.  Tickets can be obtained by calling the United Way office at 815-625-7973.

Don’t wait to purchase your tickets.  Call today, as they are going fast, and there is limited seating.  Tickets must be reserved by Wednesday, September 10.  No tickets will be sold the day of the event.
