2014 Whiteside County Fair Day 1

Posted by

Jean Eggemeyer, Morrison, IL, and 5-year-old daughter Anna, awaited announcement of the 6:00 p.m. winner of the Bicycle Give Away on Tuesday, August 12, 2014, outside the Secretary’s office.  Kiera Turner, 9, of East Dubuque, IL, also waited to hear her name called and wore a big smile as she claimed her gift.  When asked if she had a bike she replied, “Yeah, but it doesn’t fit.”  So, donor CGH Health & Vision Center, 105 S. Heaton Street, Morrison, made someone very happy.  Kiera is unable to ride the “Exploit” Pacific Mountain Series bike to school, but she will ride it on the road.  She has a helmet.

Morrison Community Hospital, 303 N. Jackson Street, Morrison, hosts the First Aid tent outside the Secretary’s office.  Three paramedics on staff were, left-to-right, Renee Schroth and spouses Butch and Cindy Nimmick.  Cindy said, “We’re here all week, almost every day.”  The title of “Youngest Fairgoer” probably goes to this infant, whose sister changed his diaper in the MCH tent. Two unidentified, male MCH 911 responders stopped to visit before seeking Fair Food.

DanHagerA good place for that was D’s Smokin BBQ & Catering food stand.  The menu features pulled pork or beef brisket (chest meat) sandwiches or nachos covered in creamy cheese and the meat.  Add a drizzle of sweet barbecue sauce!  Dan and Christine Hager, Albany, IL, travel the area fair circuit, assisted by their children Tiffany, 15, and Tony, 18.  They have done so for four years, the last two in their attractive new trailer.  During the off-season, the Hagers cater “any size party or just any time [you want] BBQ with friends and family.”   Call them at 309-428-6880.

Listed are award winners in these Departments:  Junior Agricultural and Agricultural Products; Junior Hobbies; Junior Textile and OpenTextile; Open Horticulture.  All entrants are from Illinois unless noted.
