With Morrison Community Unit District #3 starting school on Monday, August 18, 2014, Morrison Police Department urges the community to drive carefully and watch for children. Children will be walking or riding bicycles to school. Vehicular traffic will increase during school hours, as well. The Morrison Police want to make sure everyone arrives to school, home from school, and to their other destinations safely. Morrison Police will patrol the school zones, observe school bus stops, and conduct speed enforcement throughout the City as school commences.
Morrison Police would like to remind the Morrison Community of a couple ordinances (new and old) as they relate to driving and parking in the area of Morrison schools. All these regulations are posted.
- Speed Limits: City-Wide Speed Limit is 25 M.P.H. unless otherwise posted. Speed limit within posted School Zones is 20 M.P.H.
- Academic Drive: 2-Hour parking is allowed on the north side of Academic Drive (westbound traffic). No parking, standing, or stopping continues on the south side of Academic Drive and with eastbound traffic. Please remember the improvements made to the one-way traffic patterns within the school parking lots at Southside School and the Junior High School.
- Genesee Avenue: No parking along Genesee Avenue, which includes the area in front of the high school.
- NEW for N. Cherry Street: The 500 and 600 blocks of N. Cherry Street along the east side (northbound traffic) are now no parking, standing, or stopping, Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The 600 block of N. Cherry Street along the west side (southbound traffic) is now 2-Hour parking only.
State laws to remember:
- Motor vehicles are required to yield the right-of-way to pedestrians in crosswalks.
- A person operating a motor vehicle is prohibited from using any wireless telephone or other electronic communication device, unless the device is hands-free.
In conclusion, the Morrison Police ask everyone to “please slow down, be alert, and drive carefully!”
