Erected in 1918, this 14-sided, timber structure will celebrate its centennial in four years. It has resided on the grounds of the Whiteside County Central Agricultural Society, now called the Whiteside County Fair, for 96 years. As with anything–or anyone–that age, restoration and beautification are requisite tasks. Even an icon needs a facelift occasionally.
The so-called Round Barn was repainted during the end of July and early August, 2014. Andy Baranek and a work crew donated their labor over four days. This began with power washing the surface, like a gigantic microdermabrasion treatment.
The iconic barn’s two-level roof was also replaced. Now, the “Grande Dame” of the fairground looks pretty fine!
Cottonwood 4-H Club painted the Crow’s Nest/announcer stand. It, too, has an attractive new roof.
Although it is not visible, the grandstand roof has received a new paint job. In the evening you may notice brighter lighting was added across the east (rear) facade.
The fairgrounds are ready for company!
