Larry Edward Blackert, 84, of Homestead o Morrison, Morrison, IL, formerly of Prophetstown, IL, died February 23, 2023, at Rock River Hospice in Sterling, IL.
Larry was born March 6, 1938, in Omro, WI, to George, Sr. and Mabel Blackert. The family moved to Yorktown, IL, in 1940, and to Prophetstown in 1946. Larry attended school in Prophetstown, graduating from high school in 1955. Larry and Connie Gentz fell in love and were married September 21, 1958.
Larry worked 32 years for Perkins Plumbing & Heating. He also served as Township Supervisor. After retiring from Perkins, he worked with Prudential and the Schuneman Agency in Prophetstown. Golf was his passion, and he volunteered at Prophet Hills Country Club. He loved his family and had a special place in his heart for his grandson, Zack.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Connie; daughters, LeAnn (Ivy), of Kelowna, British Columbia, and Tara (Karen) of Eagan, MN; grandson, Zachary Blackert of Eau Claire, WI; eight nephews; several great nieces and nephews; many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; father- and mother-in-law, Herman and Helen Gentz; sisters, Marjorie (Ray) Hinterthuer and Donna Blackert; brothers, George, Jr. (Terry) and Keith; brother- and sister-in-law, Bob and Georgia Gentz.
A Celebration of Larry’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at the Prophetstown United Methodist Church, with Rev. Joey Garcea officiating.
A Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at the Bosma-Gibson Funeral Home in Prophetstown, IL.
Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Prophetstown, IL.
A memorial fund has been established.
