Drolema Heads to State Swim Meet

Assistant Editor Jerry Lindsey wrote the send-off portion of this feature and added his photograph. Myriah Drolema added additional information and photos regarding her son’s efforts at the State Finals.

Skylar Drolema received a students’ send-off on Wednesday, February 22, 2023, as he left Morrison High School, to compete in the IHSA State Boys Swimming Finals.

On Saturday, February 18, at East Moline[, IL,] High School, Drolema had qualified for the State meet, with second place finishes in the Sectionals in two events (50-yard freestyle at 21.49 seconds and 100-yard freestyle at 47.30 seconds.)

On Friday, February 24, Drolema competed at Westmont High School. Skylar placed 35th in the 50-yard Freestyle and 31st in the 100-yard Freestyle, adding a little time in each from his seed time.

His mother, Myriah Drolema, reported that night, “This is his fourth year qualifying for State. Freshman year, he qualified in Breaststroke and two relays. Sophomore year, he qualified in Butterfly and relays, but they didn’t have [the event], due to COVID-19. Junior year, he qualified in relays. This year, Skylar qualified in above, but this is the first time he has swum the qualifying times.” His Coaches are Kyle and Jamie Ruiz.
