Vietnam Traveling Wall Coming to Rock Falls

Posted by

The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall, a 3/5 scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington, D. C., will make a visit to Rock Falls, IL, from Thursday, August 31, through Monday, September 4, 2023. The wall will be on display along the Rock River, at the RB&W District Park, 201 E. Second Street, Rock Falls. The tribute is being organized by the Rock Falls Tourism Department.

The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall stands five feet tall at the center, covers almost 300 feet from end to end, and has 58,272 names inscribed on its surface. It stands as a reminder of the great sacrifices made during the Vietnam War. It was made to help heal and rekindle friendships, and to allow people the opportunity to honor loved ones in their hometown, who otherwise may not be able to make the trip to Washington, D. C.

This event is designed to honor those who served in Vietnam, including POW/MIA Veterans.

More information will be forthcoming in the months ahead. It will include details about the arrival of the wall, ceremonies planned, and the need for volunteers. If you would like to be put on the list for volunteers, please contact Rock Falls Tourism at 815-622-1106.
