Gus Linke, Sr. – Friend of Athletics, presented by Hall of Fame Committee member LuAnn Wieneke, with Gus Linke, Jr. present.
Gus Linke came to Morrison in August 1970. He began his career at MHJS working with intramural sports and volunteering his time to assist where needed with various sports. Gus transferred to MHS in 1976 and began his coaching career as High School Golf Coach. After four years of coaching Golf, he chose to coach Football and served as Assistant varsity coach for ten seasons. In 1986 he was appointed as the 6th Athletic Director and started the Softball program in 1995. Gus retired as a Teacher and Coach in May of 2002 but continued as Athletic Director until 2014. In 2001, Gus was selected as Illinois Class A Outstanding Athletic Director of the Year. In 2000, he started the MHS Hall of Fame, which he has been a part of ever since. He spends numerous hours in the library looking through yearbooks, newspapers, and in many other places, finding facts on past athletes and teams. He enjoyed the camaraderie of all 11 High School teams. When asked what he remembered most, Linke’s response was, “There are too many to remember.”
