August Garden of the Month, Beauty From Every Angle

Morrison Garden Club member Sharon Moore submitted the press release and photo.

Just over a year ago, in 2021, Morrison Garden Club was able to provide funds for the plantings of the Island Garden, at the front entrance of Morrison Community Hospital, 303 N. Jackson Street, Morrison, IL. We could not have done it without the generous help from the community. We used a combination of money raised from our plant sale of 2021, the Margy Haines memorial fund, a donation from the family of Shirley Ann Van Buren, and another donation from a local business.

We are dedicating this area as our “Featured Public Garden,” to those that helped make this project possible. The club members thank you all!

The design for this garden along with the plantings in the other areas was created by Bud, from Distinctive Gardens in Dixon, IL. Bud’s “Digger Crew” did the planting; mulch was provided by Morrison Community Hospital. The Hospital also provided funds for plants in the other areas.

This garden has really grown in the last year and is looking beautiful. New mulch make a dramatic contrast with the colorful plants and flowers. There truly is “beauty from every angle.” We do hope that everyone who visits the hospital, for whatever reason, is enjoying this area.

More photos of the gardens are posted on our Facebook Page @Morrison Garden Club. They are definitely worth a peek. This garden certainly beckons a visit, either online or in person, or both!

Would you like your garden or yard featured in 2023? Would you like to nominate someone’s beautiful garden or yard? Please send us a message of your nomination on our Facebook page “Morrison Garden Club” or send an email to sharonkmoore@mchsi.com.

Organized on December 10, 1948, Morrison Garden Club has aimed to stimulate the knowledge of gardening and encourage civic pride. Meeting the first Thursday of the month, the club has beautified Morrison through tree planting programs, youth garden clubs, Main Street container plantings, a library and a nursing home, and hospital plantings, garden walks, and floral shows. More recently, our annual plant sale, maintenance of Odell Library’s landscaping, spring plantings in the Veterans Park, and Routes 78/30 corner have kept the club busy.

Morrison Garden Club members would like to extend an invitation to anyone who is interested in gardening, to join our group and share in social and learning times. If you are looking simply to volunteer in our City beautification projects, please contact us for future opportunities.

The location of meetings may change to reflect the current month’s program or space availability. For information on membership or the location of the next meeting, please contact us on Facebook, or send an email to sharonkmoore@mchsi.com. Happy gardening!
