Morrison Firefighters moved out their engines, tankers, and trucks to assemble tables and chairs in their storage bays. This effort was necessary to host the annual Pancake Breakfast on Sunday, May 15, 2022, from 7:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Outside, left-to-right, Chad Hudson, David “Bubba” Dykstra, and Brian Johnson prepared sausage patties. The garage area of Morrison Fire Department at 206 W. Main Street in Morrison, IL, was packed with breakfast lovers. One of the 30 firefighters received donations and tallied each eater. He remarked, “We have had 340 [people] from 7:00 to 9:15 a.m.”

Left-to-right, three men served a lad his breakfast from a trio of roasters: Tony Belha, Abe Houzenga, (Stan Emmert visible in background), and Dave Behrens. A tried-and-true menu was pancakes, scrambled eggs, a sausage patty or two, orange juice, milk, and coffee.

Batches of batter bubbled on a long griddle; when the bottom had cooked with a crispy edge, it was flipped. The top developed a brown circle in the center of the griddlecake. The Editor asked what that circle meant. They did not know what caused the dark spot, but one of the griddle guardians stated, “It means it’s a good pancake!” Left-to-right are Stan Emmert, Rob Vegter, and Boone Brackemyer. Nate Decker refilled the grill dispenser. Retired Fireman Randy Betts supervised the flipping.

It took three men to serve each person, from roasters that kept food separated and warm. Shown left-to-right are Tony Belha, Abe Houzenga, and Dave-Behrens.

Brian Simpson served coffee. Milk and orange juice also were options

Donations to Morrison Fire Department were gratefully accepted. One-of-30 helmets and one-of-30 pairs of boots were on display in front of a new Tanker Engine #3. All were purchased this year, partially funded by previous pancake breakfasts. Every donation will help MFD provide and maintain proper equipment and tools, in order to perform services they give to the community.
