Carolyn Vandermyde, 78, of Morrison, IL, died on May 15, 2022, at her home.
Carolyn was born January 17, 1944, in Erie, IL, to Donald and Clara (Medema) Hamstra. She was a 1962 graduate of Erie High School and then earned a Nursing degree from Moline Lutheran School of Nursing in Moline, IL. She married Robert Vandermyde on December 10, 1965, in Morrison. Carolyn was a Nurse for 40 years, beginning her career at Jane Lamb Hospital in Clinton, IA, and eventually moving to Morrison Community Hospital, where she retired. She was a member of Ebenezer Reformed Church in Morrison all of her life and was on the Philathea and Ladies Aid committees. Carolyn enjoyed NASCAR, the Chicago Cubs, reading, puzzles, and taking care of people–from family members to friends. She was a devout Christian. Her love for Jesus Christ drove her to volunteer and help others, whenever she could.
Survivors include her husband, Robert; daughters, Kimberly (Brent) Nistler of Wauwatosa, WI, and Kelly (Doug) Kuehl of Morrison; son, Lain Vandermyde of Morrison; one granddaughter, Claire Nistler of Wauwatosa; sisters, Donna Thompson-Borchardt of Leesburg, FL, and Beth (Louis) Zavala of South Elgin, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law, Robert Borchardt.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, May 20, 2022, at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home, with Ken Renkes officiating.
There will be no Visitation.
A memorial to MercyOne Hospice has been established.
