On Good Friday, April 15, 2022, the annual Morrison, IL, Crosswalk, arranged by the Morrison Ministers Council, originated at Resthave Care & Rehabilitation, 408 Maple Avenue, and concluded at Pleasant View Rehabilitation & Health Care Center, 500 N. Jackson Street.
In the Resthave lobby, Reverend Craig Sipes and wife Kathi (Brethren In Christ Church) led the residents and visitors in song: “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Rock of Ages.” They led singing of “The Old Rugged Cross” and “At the Cross” at Pleasant View.
Left-to-right are Kathi Sipes (partial view); Pastor Sipes; Rev. Father James Brzezinski (Church of Saint Anne-Episcopal); Pastor Tammy Anderson (Bethesda Lutheran Church); Pastor Luke Schouten (Emmanuel Reformed Church); Pastor Tony Appel (St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church-LC-MS.)
Pastor Schouten offered a short message. He compared Good Friday to an “Independence Day,” because of the ultimate sacrifice made that freed all.
The group exited Resthave with Pastor Appel carrying the cross. Far behind, over his right shoulder, is Rev. Dr. Michael Selburg (First Presbyterian Church.) Willing walkers shared time transporting the heavy cross, as their march led up the N. Jackson hill to Pleasant View.
There, Pastor Appel offered his Good Friday message.
Pastor Sipes estimated “about 20” walkers simulated Jesus’s climb to Golgatha (also called Calvary), outside the walls of Jerusalem, where He was then crucified.
