The U. S. National Weather Service forecast for Thursday, April 14, 2022, in Morrison, IL, warned that “damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines….” The High Wind Warning predicted “30-40 MPH winds, with gusts up to 60 MPH, until 7:00 p.m.” It was, indeed, a blustery day, with paint being ripped from the downtown streets!
The wind exacerbated movement of chipped sections of bright, white downtown striping–similar to roof shingles in a wind storm. Not long after paint had been applied–to new, concrete street crossings and parking spaces–it began to flake off.
Morrison City Administrator Barry Dykhuizen reminds the pubic that the problem will be resolved, “when the weather cooperates. [Painting] contractors are returning to correct the downtown striping. Gensini Excavating, Inc. subcontracted the paint job.
“A percentage of the total [construction] payment is reserved as ‘retainage’ funds,” noted CA Dykhuizen, “until all work is done.”
