Gilman “Gil” Porter Williams, 77, of Rock Falls, IL, died Sunday, April 3, 2022, surrounded by family at Rock River Hospice and Home, Sterling, IL.
Gil was born August 19, 1944, in Sterling, the son of Vernon “Bud” Porter and Beatrice “Betty” (Gilman) Williams. He married Caroline Iversen on February 24, 1968, in Homestead Air Force Base, FL. She preceded him in death on September 28, 2021. Gil and Caroline owned and operated Williams Auto Body, Rock Falls, for 43 years. He served in the United States Air Force from 1964-1968, with a tour in the Vietnam War. He was an Aircraft Mechanic, Crew Chief for the F4 Phantom, and held a rank of Sergeant E4 upon discharge. Gil was an avid hunter with his loyal dog, Lady. He enjoyed his days golfing at different golf courses around the Illinois area. Gil was a lifetime member of Rock Falls Optimist Club. He was also a member of the Sterling American Legion and the VFW.
Survivors include his daughter, Shelley (Ryan) McCarty of Rock Falls; son, Scott (Kara) Williams of Morrison, IL; sister, Robyn “Sister Bird” Meinen; six grandchildren, Noah, Hannah, and Lauren McCarty and Gammon, Tynlee, and Briley Williams.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Caroline; sister-in-law, Patricia Iversen; nephew, Benjamin Berentes.
Visitation will be 11:00 a.m to 2:00 p.m., Saturday April 9, 2022, at Schilling Funeral Home & Cremation.
Funeral Services will follow immediately at 2:00 with Military Honors.
In honor of April Parkinson’s Awareness Month, the family has requested a casual dress in orange or Team Fox apparel.
