Herman Beveroth (1928 – 2014)

herman beverothHerman Beveroth, 86, of Sterling, IL, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, May 24, 2014, surrounded by his family.

Herman was born February 18, 1928, in Sterling, to Herman E. A. Beveroth and Amelia Louise (Machamer) Beveroth. He married Leora Wolber on June 6, 1948, at First Lutheran Church of Jordan. They would have celebrated their 66th anniversary this coming June.

Herman joined the Navy in February of 1945 and served in the Pacific Theater with the 56th U. S. Naval Construction Batallion. He was stationed on Wake and Guam Islands, among others. Herman grew up in the Morrison, IL, area and farmed north of Sterling until he retired, but continued to help his sons on the farm for many years thereafter. Herman was a devout and committed member of First Lutheran Church of Jordan for nearly 66 years and served on the church council numerous times. He also served as a board member for Coleta School. Herman enjoyed his family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his numerous coffee buddies in Milledgeville, IL. He also loved attending many Navy Seabee reunions in the U. S. and the Pacific with his wife.

He is survived by his wife, Leora; four children, Teresa (Greg) Hummel, of Evanston, IL, Neil (Debora) Beveroth, LuAnn (John) Gvozdjak, Brian (Paula) Beveroth, all of Sterling; grandchildren, Andrea (Keith) Knohl of Evanston, Brandon (Kyla) Hummel, of Glenview, IL, Nicole (Troy) Frampton, of Milledgeville, Lucas (Becky) Beveroth, of Roscoe, IL, Amanda, Amelia, and Andrew Beveroth, and Katarina Gvozdjak, all of Sterling; eight great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Herbert (Judy) Beveroth, of Rock Falls, IL, sister-in-law, Virginia Beveroth of Morrison, IL, brother-in-law, Charles Walmsley, of Jensen Beach, FL, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Marvin, and sisters Althea, Marian, Dorothy, Onlie, and Lois.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 28, 2014, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Schilling Funeral Home in Sterling, IL, and also Thursday, May 29, 2014, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church of Jordan.

Funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 29, 2014.

Memorials may be directed to First Lutheran Church of Jordan, the Milledgeville-Coleta Fire Departments, and the Milledgeville American Legion Post.
