Lamp Post 1 Installed; 58 to Go

On Friday afternoon, January 21, 2022, the Editor interviewed employees of Engel Electric Company, who were installing the first of 59 lamp posts in the downtown Morrison, IL, area.  The Sterling, IL, business had four men on site.

Two pulled seven wires from the individual bases where posts would be affixed.  They said they were not running wi-fiber, but they created conduit to encase it.  They began a couple days before, leveling holes, and assembling the posts indoors.  It will take “up to six weeks to’ complete the installation, reported one crewman.

Two men with a bucket truck “did the heavy lifting” to set the first pole.  It dangled in the air, from padded strapping holding one of the horizontal bars, where future banners will be displayed.

The ground man steadied the heavy pole, guiding it above four screws on the lamp base.  The aerial man lowered the post into place and secured it with bolts.

A lamp lay on the ground at the corner of W. Main and Orange Streets.  Perhaps it was in case the first one broke.  It will be put to good use in the next weeks, as downtown Morrison comes to light.
