Morrison Women Have a Hero Inside

YWCAwinnersThree outstanding women leaders from Morrison, IL, were regognized on Thursday, April 10, 2014, as part of the 32nd annual Women of Achievement Luncheon, hosted by YWCA of the Sauk Valley.  They are shown left-to-right.

 

Dr. Suellen Girard (Morrison Community Unit School District #6 Superintendent of Schools) was one of three nominees for the Louise Bittorf Sullivan Award for Inspirational Woman.

 

Pam Pfister (Morrison Community Hospital CEO) received the Jane Reid Keefer Award for Professions and Education from a slate of seven candidates.

 

Mary Black (Owner of Super Wash, Inc.) received the Pearl Woods Award for Business and Industry from a slate of three candidates.

At a well-attended luncheon held at Dixon Elks Club, 1279 Franklin Grove Road, Dixon, IL, six categories of achievement were recognized.  Within those, 29 extraordinary women nominees were submitted from throughout the Sauk Valley area,

The honorees were

  • Louise Bittorf Sullivan Award for Inspirational Woman–Tammy Nelson
  • Pearl Woods Award for Business and Industry–Mary Black
  • Crete Dillon Bowman Award for Community Leadership–Catherine Gibson
  • Jane Reid Keefer Award for Professions and Education–Pam Pfister
  • L.L. Ely Award for Secretarial Excellence–Betty Leslie
  • Young Woman of Tomorrow–Hayleigh Covella.

All proceeds from the Women of Achievement Luncheon will support the YWCA’s many services provided in Lee and Whiteside Counties.  They include

  • services for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault
  • prevention of abuse and bullying
  • girls’ programs
  • women’s career services
  • immigrant services
  • and more.
