Joe Bielema called with news of two American bald eagles sitting in a tree, at the southeast corner of E. Wall (IL Route 78) and S. Madison Streets, Morrison, IL, on Sunday morning, April 6, 2014.
Neighbors on Wall Street were watching, too. It is unusual to see eagles here. This is a residential area, with much traffic and far from a food source.
Bielema explained that crows had been verbally harrassing these large birds of prey. When the Editor took these photos at 2:30 p.m., only one bird remained. Males and females are nearly indistinguishable.
The predator watched the sky–looking east and west–but Bielema posited that it was considering the dead squirrel in the road.
At 2:35 three crows noisily returned to the tree. A brave one moved closer to the eagle and began to communicate its annoyance. The eagle departed soon after, chased by one brave crow. They could be seen soaring over E. Main Street or E. Lincolnway. Almost immediately, three crows joined the endeavor.
