March Madness 2014

Morrison High School, 643 Genesee Avenue, Morrison, IL, was a-buzz inside and out, on Friday, March 14, 2014, during the annual March Madness and Meet the Players event. From 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., licensed drivers age 18 and older could test drive one of five Ford vehicles, courtesy of Pete Harkness Ford-Lincoln, Route 40 North, Sterling, IL.  During this repeat “Drive 4 UR School” campaign, each driver earned $20 for the Morrison Athletic Boosters.  Ford Motor Company would pay up to $6000 for 300 test drives.

Lions-groupIn the cafeteria, the Morrison Lions Foundation displayed an exciting Eagle Scout project collaboration with Morrison Boy Scout Nick Kaufman and the City.  The Lions are fundraising to build a 24′ x 32′ picnic pavilion at Morrison Sports Complex.  It will cost $16,000 and include a concrete floor and “birdproof” ceiling for shade and sheltered eating.

Donors can offer support by contacting Steve Wroble at 815-772-2476 by Thursday, May 1.

“Working with youth and providing a much-needed pavilion for the community reinforces the Lions’ motto, ‘We Serve’,” stated Board Member Bob Smith.  He stands at right with Kaufman, Leo the Lion, and Sandy Shetler.

An upcoming Lions Club Pancake Breakfast, on Saturday, April 5, from 7:00 to 10:30 a.m., will assist the Sports Complex pavilion project. Order pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, and coffee, milk, or juice, at DQ Grill & Chill, 200 N. Sawyer Road, Morrison.  Eat in the restaurant; order at the drive-up window; purchase a convenient carry-out meal.  The cost is a donation.  Supplemental funding is provided by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.

To support the annual Post Prom entertainment, Junior Class parents and students offered supper options:  walking tacos, hot dogs, and pulled pork sandwiches.  Tastings of several Butter Braid coffee cakes added to the fundraiser.

Outside the gym, the Morrison Junior High BEST parent group signed up particpants for a Trivia Night on Saturday, March 15.  They are raising money to purchase carrying cases for new Chromebooks, that will be available to each student in the upcoming months.

Inside the gym, the flurry of acitvity continued.  First, Meet the Players spring team introductions were announced by Adam Smith.  Photos are below.  Following that were a Student-Faculty volleyball game; three different Minute-to-Win-It contests; Shoot-Out; a Student-Faculty basketball game; Dash-for-Cash; a Student-Faculty Dodge Ball game.
