On Sunday, March 9, 2014, Girls Scouts of the USA celebrated Girl Scout Sunday across the Nation. The largest American female organization began on March 12, 1912, in Savannah, GA, at the design of Juliette Gordan Lowe. GSUSA celebrates its 101st anniversary during the current Girl Scout Week. Junior Girl Scout Troop #5294 took a major part in church services at Morrison United Methodist Church, 200 W. Lincolnway, Morrison, IL.
Two of the eight members rang the bell to call services to order on the first Sunday of Lent. All greeted the attendees and distributed church bulletins. Six of theScouts, with the exception of the acolytes, collected the offering.
The Reverend Ryan Sutton first invited all Girl Scouts to come forward for his Children’s Message. One Daisy Girl Scout, Elise, and one older Girl Scout from Milledgeville, IL, Troop #5154, Tiana, joined the Juniors. He asked them to describe special merit badges they earned and enjoyable experiences. Then, the Juniors, in turn, read the ten points of the Girl Scout Law; each was associated with a Bible verse.
“The motivating force in Girl Scouting is spiritual,” states the Preamble, in the Constitution of Girl Scouts of USA.

Troop #5294 meets at the church on Wednesday evenings, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., with Leaders Becky Albrecht and Laura Wilson. However, on Monday, March 10, they will hold their meeting at Baked by Liz, 119 E. Main Street. The delicious activity is to fill, frost, and eat cupcakes in honor of Girl Scout Week!
They are working on the “Get Moving” Journey, and Morrison Mayor Everett Pannier will help them on Wednesday, March 12. He will discuss how the City recycles.
The “Get Moving” badge will involve a special sleep-over at the Sterling, IL, YWCA, on the last Saturday in April, in combination with Junior and Cadette Girl Scouts. Rappeling, tubing, and a cave tour wil be enjoyed by 80 Girl Scouts.

- Thin Mints–crisp wafers covered in chocolaty coating made with natural oil of peppermint
- Trefoils–traditional shortbread cookies
- Samoas–crisp cookies coated in caramel, sprinkled with toasted coconut, and striped with dark chocolaty cocoa.
