Morrison High School Principal Scott Vance is similar to his MHS Seniors: both are coming to the end of one phase of life, with a new phase to begin. He, too, is a “student.” Vance takes Western Illinois University classes in the Quad Cities, to earn his “Education Specialist” degree.
“Hopefully, [he will meet that goal] January 1, 2015. After this summer I will have four classes left.” Vance may take on-campus WIU classes in Macomb, IL, or at Grayslake, IL.
All his effort will qualify Vance for his new position: Assistant Superintendent of Schools. In May 2014 he will assume that role, “handling most of the day-to-day duties” currently managed by retiring Superintendent Dr. Suellen Girard.
An Interim Superintendent will be hired to handle official duties, such as signing documents.
Vance’s contract is being negotiated at this time. When his degree is completed next year, he will become the full-time Superintendent.
