4th Graders to Present The Wax Museum

Posted by

Be prepared to enjoy The Wax Museum–composed of 4th grade children–within Morrison’s Heritage Museum, on Sunday, April 27, 2014.  Morrison Historical Society will host its Open House at 202 E. Lincolnway, Morrison, IL.  Doors open at 1:00 p.m., with the unique program beginning at 1:30.

For the past five years, educator Miss Yingling of West Carroll Primary School, Savanna, IL, has offered her fourth graders a cross-curricular method of learning American history.  Students research a notable person of the past and create a first-person interpretation.  These young actors also devise an appropriate period wardrobe and props to add richness to their dramas.

Visitors will find several wax-mannequin-children throughout the local museum, both upstairs and down.  An electric chair will assist those for whom stairs are a difficulty.  In order to animate the statues, simply tap on their paper cups.  They will introduce themselves, recite the narration, and return to a waxy motionless state..

In 2013, some of the characters in The Wax Museum were Clara Barton, Abraham Lincoln, Pocahontas (at left), Sally Ride, Sacagawea (at right), and John Phillips Souza.

This Open House program promises to appeal to all ages, so bring the family.  Parking is at the rear of the building; a ramp makes Morrison’s Heritage Museum accessible for everyone.  Refreshments will be served.
