Rosemary Harris of Columbus Junction, IA, will portray former First Lady Mamie Geneva Doud Eisenhower at the Windmill Cultural Center, 111 10th Avenue, Fulton, IL, on Wednesday, February 19, 2014.
The Wild Wednesday programs are free to attend and open to the public. Light refreshments are served at 9:00 a.m. with the program following.
Harris is a graduate of the University of Iowa and received her Master’s Degree from Oregon State University. Rosemary taught 36 years. She spent the last 20 years of her teaching career in Columbus Junction, IA, teaching ESL–English as a Second Language.
After retirement from teaching in 1996, she began developing portrayals of eight notable Iowa women, including Mamie Eisenhower born in Boone, IA, in 1896. Mamie Eisenhower was the wife of United States President Dwight D. Eisenhower, and First Lady of the United States from 1953 to 1961.
According to the White House website, “Mamie Eisenhower’s bangs and sparkling blue eyes were as much trademarks of an administration as the President’s famous grin. Her outgoing manner, her feminine love of pretty clothes and jewelry, and her obvious pride in husband and home made her a very popular First Lady.”
