Elizabeth Jane “Betty” McKim, 90, of Pleasant View Rehabilitation and Health Care Center of Morrison, IL, died at the Center.
Betty was born September 9, 1923, in Morrison, IL, to Roy Myron and Grace (Diehl) Twombly. She was educated in the Morrison grade schools and was a 1941 graduate of Morrison High School. She attended Scovil Business College in Sterling, IL. Betty married James C. McKim on June 3, 1947, in West Point, NY. He died January 11, 2003. She was employed as a secretary at the Morrison High School. Later she and her husband owned and operated a silk screen business in Morrison. She also worked for the former Paddock Cleaners in Morrison. Betty was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Morrison and the church’s Presbyterian Women’s Association. She was a charter member of the former Morrison Country Club and also served as a Girl Scout Leader and Den Mother for Cub Scouts. Betty was an avid golfer and played in the Lincoln Highway Tournaments. She was a seamstress and enjoyed all kinds of needlework, flower gardening, playing bridge, and watching tennis, golf, and the Olympics on TV. Betty played tennis in her early years. She was a dog-lover and enjoyed watching the birds at her bird feeder.
Survivors include one daughter, Jean Propst of Platteville, WI; two sons, James (Mary) McKim of Fort Mill, SC, and Joseph (Noriko) McKim of Yokohama, Japan; five grandchildren, Jill (Jason) TeStrake, Joshua Propst, Krista (Ryan) Scofield, Adam McKim, and Alex McKim; three great-grandchildren, Arthur and Gridley Scofield, Gemma TeStrake.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James; one sister, Lola Mae Shirk.
FUNERAL SERVICE: 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 30, 2014, at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home
OFFICIATING: Rev. Dr. James Camp, Retired Pastor
TIME OF GATHERING: 12:30 p.m., Thursday, January 30, 2014, until the time of the service at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home
INTERMENT: Grove Hill Cemetery, Morrison, IL
