SingRainJoin Morrison, IL, movie-goers at the Odell Public Library, 307 S. Madison Street, on Tuesday, January 14, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. for the irrepressible, heart-warming film, “Singin’ in the Rain.”  It stars Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds, and Donald O’Conner.  This film, now more than 50 years old, is one of the best musicals in the history of films.  With the passage of time, audiences have grown to appreciate this as one of the most spellbinding examples of film entertainment.  It is the perfect antidote to the blues and blahs of winter!

The film will be shown in the Program Room at Odell–complete with popcorn and a beverage.  There is no charge for the afternoon viewing.

“Singin’ in the Rain” takes us back to the late 1920’s, when the film industry was abandoning silent films in favor of the talkies.  Kelly as Don Lockwood and Jean Hagen as Lina Lamont are the darlings of the silent screen and often are paired romantically, much to the dislike of Don.  This is especially true when he meets and falls for Kathy Selden, a chorus girl, played by the 18-year-old Reynolds.  Don’s best friend in this madcap musical comedy is Cosmo, acted by funny man O’Conner.

“Singin’ in the Rain” features hummable tunes and energetic choreography.  The two most memorable singing/dancing sequences in any Hollywood musical are O’Conner’s gravity-defying “Make ‘Em Laugh” and Kelly’s unforgettable falling-in-love moment while singing, dancing, and splashing in the rain.  This is movie making at its best and remains fresh, no matter how many times it is seen.

Movie critic James Berandinelli stated, “Watching ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ is an exuberant, magical experience.  It is a true journey deep into the heart of feel-good territory.”

Although our streets and sidewalks may be snow-covered, inside Odell Public Library we will be “Singin’ in the Rain.”  Join us!
