Lions also say a sincere thank you for your support during the Candy Days held on Friday, October 11, and Saturday, October 12. Funds collected during Candy Days support vision- and hearing-impaired services.
This year Lions World Sight Day was observed on Thursday, October 10. Emphasis is placed on preventing blindness and improving sight for those less fortunate. During this past year our club collected 436 pairs of eyeglasses that were forwarded to the Lions of Illinois Foundation for sorting and distribution. In addition to the glasses, we received 24 hearing aids that were recycled. The club collected 136 cell phones and received one-half pound of keys. Keys are sold for their metal, and proceeds aid Lions of Illinois Foundation for funding the sight and hearing programs.
Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, November 5, at noon at Happy Joe’s Pizza, 109 W. Main Street, Morrison. Keith Hamstra is in charge of the program. The speaker will be Mike Senneff. He will speak on history from World War II involving Lt. Allen Wiersema from Fulton, IL. Lt. Wiersema was struck by enemy fire and crashed in France.
We cordially invite anyone interested in learning more about the Lions Club to visit any of our meetings held on the first and third Tuesday of each month at noon at Happy Joe’s Pizza. You may also learn about our club by visiting our website www.e-clubhouse.org/sites/morrisonil.
