Dorothy L. Bielema-Nelson (1921 – 2013)

dorothy bielema-nelsonDorothy L. Bielema-Nelson, 91, of Morrison, IL, died Monday, September 9, 2013, at the Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, IL.

Dorothy was born December 5, 1921, in Morrison, to William and Lillian (Wolber) Stralow.  She was educated in the Morrison grade schools and graduated from Morrison High School.  On September 27, 1941, she married Paul Bielema in Fulton, IL.  He died on January 22, 1993.  She then married Howard R. Nelson on February 5, 1994, in Morrison.  He died on January 7, 2008.  Dorothy was employed with General Electric Co. in Morrison for 22 years.  She was a member of the Morrison United Methodist Church, where she was active in the church circle.  She was a member of the Morrison Country Club, was an avid card player, and enjoyed golf and bowling with her late husband, Paul.  Dorothy was always a hostess and a wonderful cook, ensuring no one went hungry.

Survivors include one daughter, Nancy (Dan) Hill of Morton, IL; two sons, Larry (Mardi) Bielema of Washington, IL, and Dale (Jo) Bielema of Peru, IL; one step-daughter, Dolores (Cecil) Stralow of Temecula, CA; one step-son, Dr. Douglas (Donna) Nelson of Ojai, CA; five grandchildren, Lisa (Steve) Galbraith, Tom (Wendy) Bielema, Mike (Kili) Bielema, Stacy (Trevor) O’Malley, Bradley (Noemi Pili) Bielema; ten great-grandchildren, Arabella, Madeline, and Seraphina Galbraith; Natalie, Jessica, and Samantha Bielema, Brady and Adison Bielema; Austin and Taylor O’Malley.

She was preceded in death by her husbands and one brother, Ellsworth F. Stralow.

FUNERAL SERVICE:  10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 14, 2013, at Morrison United Methodist Church, Morrison, IL

OFFICIATING:  Rev. Ryan Sutton, Pastor of Morrison United Methodist Church

VISITATION:  5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, September 13, 2013, at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home

INTERMENT:  Grove Hill Cemetery, Morrison, IL

A memorial has been established to Morrison United Methodist Church.
