The Perfect Saturday

Today’s fast-paced lifestyle offers many options for an individual or family to spend on Saturday.  You can focus on  music and perhaps take in a concert or listen to some itunes.  You can focus on art and visit a museum or theatre.  You can travel to find the best food selection to match the varied appetites, or you may want to spend your Saturday with friends and “just hang out!”

The “Paint The Town” celebration in Morrison, IL, on Saturday, September 21, 2013, wraps all the entertainment desires into one day.  The historic streets of downtown Morrison are closed off at 4:00 a.m., and the volunteers start preparation for the biggest day of the year for friends and families.

EMain JerryAny age may purchase a 5′ by 5′ square, to paint anything they want on the street.  While the artists are creating masterpieces and enjoying socializing with friends, bands and musicians are entertaining the masses up and down the multi-block art show.  As you wander the concrete canvas, you will be able to ‘tap a toe’ to many bands and musical groups.  [They] are located every block or so, to make sure every visitor is able to hear and enjoy the artistic musical talents of the area.

As the artists create and the friends and families encourage, the food stands are offering specialties to match any appetite.  Throughout the day, the fresh country air carries the aroma of food offerings:  kettle corn, funnel cakes, pork tenderloins, baked potatoes, fried Oreos, burgers, brats, tacos, and the enticing list of smells go on and on.

To cap off a “perfect” day, after the painters finish their masterpieces, the streets turn into a dance arena.  A DJ plays the music menu that pleases the gathering and entertains everyone into the evening.
