Nathan B. Vavra, Morrison High School Class of 1999, earned his Juris Doctor degree on Saturday, May 15, 2021, from the University of San Diego School of Law.
The JD is one of several Doctor of Law degrees. Niece Annabelle wondered if we should call him Dr. Vavra. No. He completed a professional degree as a Doctor of Law, but the title “Doctor” is not conferred to his name.
In 2018, Vavra began taking night classes part-time, and later became Manager of a new, San Diego, Brietling (watch) Boutique. His classmates were generally not fresh from a Bachelor degree program, but more mature men and women. To describe themselves, they selected the acronym OWLS–Older, Wiser, Law Students. As he moved into daytime classes, Vavra kept the OWLS informed of events which night students did not always receive. The OWLS were granted official status as a campus organization. On May 15, Nathan Vavra became the first member of the Older, Wiser, Law Students organization to wear a green cord atop his robe.
Most gratifying is his competition on the University of San Diego National Mock Trial team.
Soon, he will begin preparation to take the California State Bar Exam in July.
Vavra is the son of Stephanie and the-late Frank Vavra. His family acknowledges and honors Nate’s dedication, effort, focus, and sense of purpose, to accomplish this impressive, personal goal.
