Owner Liz Carbaugh opened Grit & Grace in the last week of February 2021, at 115 E. Main Street, Morrison, IL. Hours are Thursday and Friday, noon to 5:00 p.m; Saturday and Sunday, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. “We’re usually pretty busy on Sundays,” she noted.
Like the former owner in that location, the varied merchandise is devoted to “decor, crafts, gifts, and more.” Carbaugh retained some items from the previous owner, which now sell on consignment.
“About 50% of the stock is sold on consignment. We buy from other Midwest vendors who create their own work. The rest [of the items] are my creations.”
Two vendors make jewelry. There are wood shelves and smaller pieces of furniture, along with a multitude of wall signage. Look for colorful ribbon wreaths; etched glass bottles and jars; decal messages. One vendor crafts t-shirts and tumblers.
She began her business as many entrepreneurs do. “I started it as a hobby, and it just took off! I did orders out of my house for less than a year. I mostly do wall art signage, wood stuff.” Some things are seasonal.
Daughter Grace, age 1.5, keeps her mother company. She agreed to pose for the Editor with her friends, Moose, Cow, Bear, Pig, Raccoon, and Dog.
