Letter from Zuidema and Wood about Vern Tervelt

Posted by

Dear Editor:

Vern Tervelt has lived and paid Morrison taxes for over 50 years.  He is proud to lead and represent the people of Morrison[, IL.]  Vern raised seven successful children in Morrison.  Vern’s father, Maynard Tervelt, worked for the City of Morrison as the Sewer Plant Operator for 35 years.

Vern has been an elected Alderman for the past six years.  As Mayor, Vern will engage the residents to find solutions for our City.  He always responds to residents’ issues.  He tries to find solutions, researches, and does due diligence while representing the Morrison citizens.

Being a Salesman and Territory Manager for 32 years, he prefers personally meeting with his constituents to work out their issues.  Usually a phone call to Vern results in a positive action for the resident.

Vern has been a referee/umpire for 45 years in the local and the Quad Cities area.  One of Vern’s priorities is the youth of Morrison and the area.  Vern said he will personally attend winter scheduling meetings to set up summer Softball tournaments.  These tournaments will boost revenue for some of our businesses and help offset some of the Complex expenses.  After years of trying to save money at the Complex, the Council finally shut down the Complex for the winter months, saving money.  The future generations need the Sports Complex up and running properly, providing outdoor activities for our youth!

During Vern’s time on the City Council, a new Wastewater Treatment Plant was built; we have Well #5 up and running; Main Street renovations have been approved and will start in April 2021; and more.

Better use of taxpayer’s money for City improvements is a priority!  Vern has been working towards:

  • getting the Sports Complex usable and running more efficiently
  • keeping Morrison safe with a good Police Department
  • getting an efficient plan for our Street Department to prioritize fixing potholes and resurfacing streets and alleys
  • providing clean water
  • working with our Police Department to enforce City Ordinances, like cleaning up 303 W. Lincolnway
  • working with the Chamber and MADC to help bring new retail, commercial, and industrial businesses to Morrison.

On April 6, we will support Vern Tervelt for Mayor.

Thank you,

Marti Wood
